Comprehensive Therapy and Clinical Supervision with Dr Peter Jakob at Progressive Psychology
At Progressive Psychology, I provide a comprehensive, wrap-around therapeutic service for children, adolescents, adults, and families facing emotional, psychological, and family difficulties.

I also offer clinical supervision and consultation to mental health professionals and other practitioners involved with clients experiencing emotional, psychological, and family-related challenges.

Psychological Therapies
A wide range of psychological therapies are integrated into my work to help individuals and families receive the support they need, when they need it. These therapies include:
• Nonviolent Resistance Therapy (NVR)
• Systemic therapy and family therapy
• Solution-focused therapy
• Narrative therapy
• Couples therapy
• Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
• Eye-Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR)
• ReAttach Therapy
It’s important to recognise that therapists are facilitators of change. We don’t “know everything” about a client, nor can we “know” exactly what a client requires — their own knowledge about themselves is activated in therapy. This includes reconnecting clients with their own individual or relationship strengths and resources, which may not have been available at a crucial time.
By working collaboratively, the therapist and client can together develop solutions to some of the most pressing challenges a person faces.
My work focuses on helping people overcome the negative effects of trauma, including interpersonal abuse, and dealing constructively with difficulties that may have arisen from social injustices, challenges related to neurodivergence, or simply misfortune that led to emotional difficulties.

Clinical Supervision and Consultation
I have been providing clinical supervision to individual colleagues and teams for over 35 years. My supervision practice is informed by the therapeutic approaches I use, helping practitioners re-integrate their knowledge and skills in a coherent, increasingly effective way.
Therapists often develop a tendency to focus on specific techniques or methods at the expense of others. In supervision, I support colleagues in bringing their full range of knowledge and skills into their practice, especially when working with clients who face the most complex challenges. It is important for the authentic ‘self’ of the therapist to contribute to good outcomes, and this is an important aspect of supervision.
My approach to supervision is informed by a social constructionist framework. It systemic and narrative, focusing on resources, interpersonal connectedness, and facilitating growth rather than “repairing” issues. It is also trauma- and attachment informed.
A key area of my supervision is Nonviolent Resistance therapy and practice (NVR), which I introduced to the UK about 25 years ago. Within this approach, I have developed trauma-oriented, child-focused methods, which have been shared in various journal publications and in my most recent book, Jakob, P. (2025).
